FAQ of the Freedom Team This draft document is work-in-progress
Request: If a person asks a question, he or she must also try to propose a plausible answer! Questions can be raised at Shantanu’s blog.
STRATEGY Why focus on getting leaders first to the neglect of grassroots? 1. Why is the Freedom Team of India (FTI) focusing on leaders and not on building its constituency (ground work)? Also, should we find supporters first or leaders first? Answer (Word)
2. Why is FTI insisting on 300 seats as a goal, and not aiming in a step-wise manner? Answer (Word)
ROLE OF FTI Purpose of this group 3. Is FTI a political group or a political party? Will it become a political party? Will it remain as a common platform or coalition for different political parties and independents with shared beliefs? Answer (Word)
4. What is the main purpose of this group? If it is merely to *discuss* and propose various ideas, this is a think tank NOT a political party...and we may or may not need leaders but thinkers! Answer (Word)
5. Has the strategy of convincing existing parties to improve their candidates or offer incentives for performance/integrity to politicians and administrators been considered? (FTI could then become a lobby group that applies various types of pressure to reforms in governance as well provides expertise.) Answer (Word)
VALUE PROPOSITION Why would any leader join FTI? 6. “If I am potential *leader* (i.e. willing to contest elections at some point), what is the *advantage* to me of joining this group? Is it in having an established cadre/support base? Is it in having access to resources (crudely speaking money)? Is it in having access to some organised support (e.g. FICCI, CII, trade unions etc)? Answer (Word)
RESOURCES Where will resources come from? 7. This effort will need time and money – a lot of money! If we have to wait for 1500 people to come together before starting the process of raising resources, that maybe a long way off!
